Hello! I am quite a newbie here and I would like to receive some critique and feedback on my photography skills.
I'm 16, haven't taken any photography classes. I'm trying to learn through experimentation. Everything started with Caplio RX (non-pro) camera about 4 years ago. Last year I have got a Canon Powershot S5IS (semi-pro). I am struggling to take the best out of it before upgrading to better gear an bigger expenses. These are some of my shots, both older and newer. ![]() Last edited by silverrspells; 02-03-2009 at 08:52 PM. |

Hey there. I like the colors of the duck in the water. Very cool. The birds landing/taking off is also a nice capture. A touch blurry, but those kind of shots are hard enough to get.
The newest shots of the cat seem to be too dark to know what is going on. Just my opinion. Keep at it! |

The first one with the duck is really nice. It has a nice range of lights and darks. Keep shooting and posting.

Duck's definitely my favourite, i think i would've cropped out the bottom bit underneath the duck and given it a border though, maybe that's just me though.
"Keep shooting and posting." as jerrica said ![]()

The birds in the water would be my favourite, the blur of the wings capture movement and the rapid activity at the time.
Your photos of the cat are interesting too, particular the first one in colour, but the expression and softness of the cat in the last one I find to be a very nice keep. Keep shooting, these look really nice! ![]() |

I love the one with the pigeons eating out of the person's hand (yours?), but the tail at the top is distracting. You might be able to airbrush it out, as the background is plain and it's only just tangenting with the other bird's head.

eventually - I'm glad you like the bird shots. As for the blurry ones, I know they are blurred, but I thought they gave an interesting overall feeling.
purplerose - Thanks ^_^ VenomVindicta - I'll definitely think about that Cella - Thank you for your words Bob Todd - That's my dad's hand Not sure, but I'll try to remove the tail. The only problem is that I think that without it, the pic is gonna loose the "depth", without any blurry thing in the second plan. It's been some time, so I'm gonna post some other things - from the last summer. Tomorrow I'll post some experiments I did in winter |

Nice work on the 2nd one. Would try to work on the contrast a bit more by brightening some of the mid-tones and highlights.

So, here we go.
The first 2 are made during the Christmas vacation, after I got my tripod. The third is something I did today in the park. I like the way the colours came out. As for the last, it is my first attempt of faking HDR images using PS and Photomatix. Of course, I also tried the famous "surreal" edit. It looks like crap, but I wanted to share with you.

Love the colors in the 3rd one as well. Would be perfect if there was a person in the space between the sections of tall grass.

Well, I was on the other side of the lake XD. It would've been nice, though
