Portraits | Sabina Dimitriu

First of all, hello to everyone.

As I am shooting portraits most of the time, I figured out it was best to first start a thread here.

So here it goes, starting with some older selfportraits

#1. Hoppípolla

#2. Imagine

#3. Air

#4. I Am

#5. C. Op.

#6. Haunted

i like majority of the set especially the 1st, but the only part of the first that bothers me is the hand. its like gonna attack the face or something, and if its ur hand it seems detached cause theres no shoulder showing to anchor the arm down. if that makes any sense. maybe shift the body more of a 3/4 than a profile. good stuff, like the colors.

Thank you, Jingna and everybody else.

The first photo was taken with the 18-55mm kit (at 18mm focal distance if I remember well), in contre-jour at the window. The original unprocessed photo is below:

Now the latest series (or at least part of it), with my favourite model Zoia:

Nice portraits. I like the last one.

Could play around with your compositions more though. They seem too central.

Thank you, purplerose.
About the compositions, I've started as a 1/3 fan, but the square crops and recently buying a Diana+ camera have turned me more into a person who experiments with the compo.

Next, the kids on the street series.

R.

The next ones ar with the same kid from the first photo. I named him Froggy.

F1.

F2.

F3.

These are just amazing, every single one of them. You are amazingly talented, especially for someone as young as you. You are going to go places with this if you keep it up!

wow, great pictures!

I especially like f3 from the the kids on the street series because of the facial expression and the cute puppy
technically all your shots seem perfect to me. compositionwise some of them are too centered for my taste.

Just make them feel comfortable. Make them laugh, tell some jokes. Offer to buy them a drink after!

When I meet people for the first time, I usually chat with them before, having a cup of coffee in a Cafe on the way to the place I'll take the photos. It's important not to turn the conversation in some sort of an interview, which would obviously make them feel uncomfortable. Try to talk about yourself (but not only about yourself!) and find affinities with them.
When you want something from the model - like a certain expression or position - don't hesitate and explain your idea the best you can, so that he or she can understand you. Also, make them come up with ideas. Try to turn the shooting into a funny fooling around at the end. Use background music. Do whatever you can to keep both your mind and the models' active as long as the shooting lasts. These things will help a lot.

Well those, and shooting the hell out of the camera at the beginning, when the model's stiff and still accommodating with the place. Firing at least 20 on Continuous Shooting would make anyone change his expression. And after surprise comes usually relaxation

Hi Sabina,

I've basically spent the last hour looking around at different art on the web to more or less kill time. The I came across your thread. When I scrolled down to your first pic I was blown away. It actually made me sit back in my chair with a smile. Each of your pictures just seem to tell a story to me and I'm happy I came across this thread. I really look forward to seeing more from you.

Thank you for sharing these.
