The Dream-up-Team-up
Hey folks,
Last night I had a dream where I found myself putting together photos with another photographymob member for a diptych challenge. And when I woke up I thought that this was a nice idea by my subconscious... ![]() So, why not create a collaboration challenge? Let's have a topic discussion here and then people team up for a diptych and enter it in a different thread. We might or might not have a voting. Also, collaboration style does not need to meet specific expectations. I think each team should work together the way they want and see to it that they enter one diptych image file. What do you think? |

great!
Let's hear a few topic suggestions. I think something that implies a twist or double meaning or juxtaposition (is that a word?) or ambiguity (argh... is *that* a word?) would be nice. |

ambiguity is certainly a word.
who decides who's on who's teams?

The problem with literary double meanings, as we have found before, is that not everyone is a native English speaker.
Actually, this was found before on a subject that didn't even have the potential for a double meaning - Rotting. People were upset that the topic chosen left very little open for variation, the only choice was photos of, well rotting things, but if you bend it a little (to Rotten) then there's a whole new World (rotten play, etc.), but sadly the board having non-native English speakers meant that that was very hard for people to pick up on; it just didn't come instinctively. That's just neurotic scaremongering, though, I'd love to see this idea in action, cheers, Mr. Mu! |

as a non-native English speaker I'd say that doesn't have to be a problem. There are dictionaries after all, or just deliver the subject along with a definition or just choose an easy to understand one. there are quite a lot of words with double meanings.

hmm, well, double meanings are hard to get sometimes for me - and I consider myself a rather fluent non-native speaker. Also, double meanings is just one possible topic range and maybe we don't actually have to be that specific. I mean, if we took some everyday term like "water" and let people have their way we'd get two views on water, anyway. The idea behind double meanings or ambiguity was to put people on the work-together-before-you-shoot track. As concerns teaming up... errr... I'll team up with the first one to send me a PM... ![]() |

Well, I'm sure whatever you choose should work, and if not, hey, it's a learning curve.
As for 'teaming up', anyone remember gym class and how you were always the last to get picked? This could bring back some bad memories... How about, just to complicate things, everyone writes down who they're happy to be paired with (based on things like how well they know them [or how well they don't know them], how easy it would be to work with them [msn, etc.]) and then Mr. Mu (Murat, right?) pairs you up? Dictatorship is so much more efficient than direct democracy. The writing down who you want to be paired with wouldn't necessarily dictate who you do end up with, of course, and you don't have to write anyone down I'm all up for being in on this, if I can manage it (I haven't been taking photos in a while and, well, I'm a bit incompetent on the whole, to be quite frankly honest) so sign me up! |

Hey Rhynome,
I can pair people up based on their wishful thinking...^^ I'll start out by saying that I think I can work together with everyone who is interested. I got MSN (mkayi a.t. web.de) and Skype (themuman) (don't ask me about the pseudonym... everything else was taken) a few topic suggestions (one ambiguous and the rest just terms I happen to pull out of my...sleeve): - downhill - all in one - the road less travelled - ying / yang (hehehehe... you saw it coming, didn't you?) - synthesis - the twin - borderline - membranes My idea for good entries is that they can be more than just two individual takes on a common topic, framed into a single file. That would do of course. But much more exciting as a viewer as well as a contributor and team is an entry where both parts depend on each other, in my opinion. Just as a broad hint on how to approach this. I mean, if there's no preparation like that you could after all just randomly pair entries of the normal challenge and call them diptychs, you know? Rock on! |

I'm free to be stuck with anyone; it's whoever I get lumped with that I feel sorry for. Though I would like to be paired up with someone who's a bit new to the forums and preferably very new to photography - I think it'd be more fun that way; I'll search for some specific names and send them a request. - Over the Top (a bit like border line, I suppose) - Wealth And... I'll come back with some more, I'm sure, bit pushed for time at the moment (trying to do ones which can be interpreted differently, to fit in with diptych, as for Wealth, well, it depends on what you value, beauty is in the eye of the beholder is what I'm hinting at). Definitely agree on the standpoint that both images need each other to be complete.
As for a partner, umm... I like the newbie/oldie pair-up idea, but message me if you want to pair up or something. I'm excited. ![]() |

I like to join to, I don't mind who teams up with me, as long as I can learn from it.

Here's a quick suggestion (short of time today... gonna check back in tomorrow and see if you're happy...
)no particular order. We don't have too many experienced folks around. Should someone feel they are in the wrong place, lemme know. Mr. Mu - someone Rhynome - carolupus purplerose - Nike Gentile(are you in, actually?) - Ment Work with it. Decide on a topic! cya Mu |

Maybe since Rhynome "doesn't feel competent and doesn't get his camera out very often", and I feel the same way, I wouldn't be quite as intimidated if we were a team.
Does anybody have AIM? That's my IM service of choice, but I also have windows live. Should the teams also depend on when people are usually able to have free time on the computer? I mean... I know there are people from all over the place on here. I'm usually on from about 8 to whenever (usually ends up being midnight or later), Central Time (US). If that doesn't match up with whoever I'm teamed up with, then we wouldn't ever really get to talk about it! I guess we could email back and forth...

Hi there,
I could squeeze in a bit of time again. someone, I think it might turn out too hard to match timezones. Also, if anyone feels like teaming up differently just do so. It would be nice to announce your teams in here, so we know. someone and me are team no.1 ... ![]() I'll send someone a PM, now, with my communication data and then we shall see how we get started. I suggest we collect further questions, ideas, requests, announcements and so on all in this thread, so everyone is notified. I'll throw in some rules for you: THE DREAM UP TEAM UP DIPTYCH CHALLENGE 1. GOAL have fun 2. TEAMS team up in pairs and communicate. 3. OBJECTIVE each team is to enter one image file containing a diptych reflecting on the topic chosen. 4. THE WHEREABOUTS a separate challenge thread will be set up soon where you can post your final entries. 5. MANIPULATION ...is allowed. It boils down to this: Don't go and try to "get it right in the master", like a bad recording engineer would say. Instead, see to it that the music rocks. Communicate in your team, think about what you want, clarify your concept, then plan, set up and compose your shot. Then press the shutter. If you find that the photo needs some manipulating after pressing the shutter... well... then do it. Manipulation is fine as long as you keep telling stories. 6. DEADLINE 15th of April 2008 we have a lot of communicating to do. We need a bit of time for this. 7. VOTING When all is done, let's have a poll and decide on the best entry. |

Valadilene, Gentile was rather quite and I don't know if she's in or not. You might try and pair up with Ment. First come, first served...
![]() P.S.: Gentile, I'd love to see you in action, here. Get yourself a partner and get going! |

THOUGHT POLICE, THOUGHT POLICE! Going to ban me for crimes of my imagination, are you?!
Well... fair play, really; you don't actually want my kind of mind lingering about the place, to be honest. |
